I’ve been asked a lot recently on social media how I feed my family for £40 a week. I thought I’d share a typical meal plan to show you how I do it!
This was the first shop after pay day so I’ve probably spent more than normal but this will even out over the month. When I say £40 a week this is an average over a month. This week I spent £53 but also got nappies, pull ups, toilet roll and dishwasher tablets, which obviously added to my total spend. Some of the meals I’ve planned will make enough for 2 meals which will bring costs down in other weeks too.

Here’s what we’re eating this week:
- Houmous and dippers
- Cheese and crackers
- Cheesy bean wraps
- Peanut butter and banana wraps
- Mediterranean quinoa and halloumi salad
- Jacket potatoes (tuna or cheese and beans)
- Mini veggie omelettes
- Sweet potato cheese balls
- Pasta pesto
- Pesto chicken bake
- Pork, chorizo and chickpea casserole
- Minted lamb, mash and veg
- Turkey burgers and couscous
- Pizza and chips
- Spaghetti bolognese
The pork, chorizo and chickpea casserole, minted lamb, mash and veg, turkey burgers and bolognese will make enough for 2 meals for the family, which will make things cheaper in weeks to come so I’m not too worried about going over this week. I’ll be sure to share our shopping hauls for the rest of the month with you too so you can see how it balances out!
