All about feeding our little foodies

Megan’s 3 months old update

I feel like I should’ve done an update every month but, bad parent as I am, I haven’t.  I’ve done mini updates on Instagram and Facebook but not on here so I figured it was about time I did!  3 months old is where they start to get interesting anyway, learning new skills and becoming sociable little beings so I’ll kick off monthly updates with Megan’s 3 months update.  I can’t believe it has been 3 months since she was born (birth story here).  It’s just going way too fast.

Megan has slotted into our family so naturally it’s hard to believe she hasn’t always been here.  Harry loves her.  Really loves her.  He’s so protective and loves entertaining her, telling her how she has little toes, little ears, little eyes… you get the idea!  Megan loves when he talks to her and he gets the biggest smiles from her.  I think they’ll be thick as thieves as they grow up.

Social Skills

The thing I’ve noticed the most over the past month is how sociable Megan has becoming.  She babbles away, having little conversations with me and is the smiliest little thing ever!  She loves attention and being told she’s beautiful or a little cheeky chops.  She smiles and makes the happiest noises when I say these things that I’m sure she understands!

Physical Development

Over the past week I’ve noticed that Megan is becoming more skilled at grabbing for toys on her play mat or my hand, she seems to be making purposeful movements and has an increasingly good aim when grabbing.  Over the past few days she’s also been trying to weight bear on her legs when I hold her up too and is enjoying being upright more.

Megan’s Favourite Things

Megan still loves being carried in the sling and when she’s upset she calms as soon as she sees me putting it on.  There have been a few times when she has screamed uncontrollably and we haven’t been able to figure out what was wrong, 5 minutes in the sling later and she was sleeping peacefully.

She also loves having her hand held and her cheek stroked.

Her favourite toy is ‘Mr Cats’, a black and white cat on her play mat.

Megan generally sleeps 10pm-3am before waking for a quick feed and going back to sleep until 5am/6am ish.  She will settle in her crib if I put her in drowsy but awake and generally only needs me to hold her hand to help her drift off.

Megan sleeps in her crib pulled up right next to my side of the bed with a blanket and fitted sheet for her bedding.

Megan is a dream when it comes to breastfeeding.  She is a really efficient feeder and is gaining weight well.  She is becoming fussier with the bottle and dummy and I’m finding expressing harder so I’m tempted to start introducing the occasional formula feed just so Alistair can give her a bottle and I have a bit more freedom.  Until recently I’ve been really precious that she should only have my milk but I’m so proud of how we’re doing and I’m so proud that I’ve done it all on my own so far that I really don’t think the odd bottle of formula will take away from that.

Pumping drives me mad, I hate it and I don’t want to do it any more but I will continue to use the Haakaa to get some milk off when I can.  I’m not sure what to do because I don’t want a bottle refuser. At least I know that I’m ready to be open minded about our options.  I never thought we’d get to three months old without topping up with formula so that in itself is a huge achievement for us.

She’s now around 12lbs ish which, at 3 months old, puts her just above the 25th percentile and she seems to be following that curve nicely. she is in mostly 0-3 month clothes but is starting to fit in her 3-6 months dresses too.

I couldn’t be prouder of my little Meggy Moo.  She is an absolute dream and we love her so much.
