Ingredients

  • 400g canned chickpeas (rinsed well and dried)
  • 50ml vegetable stock
  • 1 1/2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray

Method

  • Put all of the ingredients in a food processor and blitz until smooth.
  • Shape the mixture into 8 burger shapes.
  • Fry in the pan using a little cooking spray until golden on both sides.
  • Serve with whatever you like! Today we had them with peas and corn on the cob.  They are also nice with salad and plain yoghurt in a tortilla wrap.

  1. Sounds yummy, will def be making the se! Wondering about the peas tho, how are they safe? Did you smash them first? Arent they a choking hazard?

    1. We gave whole peas to our son from 6 months old. He never choked. If you are concerned you could always squash them a bit with a fork so they aren’t perfectly round, if you wanted to. Grapes should always be quartered as if they get stuck in baby’s throat they are extremely difficult to dislodge again but I think peas are smaller and safer. Our son was obsessed with peas and loved practicing his pincer grip with them!

    1. I take them out of the freezer in the morning, they defrost at room temperature by lunchtime. I then pop them in the oven to reheat. You can use the microwave but it tends to make them a bit softer and floppier than if you do it in the oven.

  2. I’d eat these myself, love you lil man chomping away on the corn, so cute. I’m struggling to find snacky things to pick at from the fridge, reckon bite size versions of these will do the trick 🙂

  3. My little one isn’t great with corn yet, she is 11 months. What would you suggest as well as the peas, I struggle with accompaniments!

    1. Perhaps tinned sweetcorn would be a good alternative? Any vegetables are good though 🙂 I’d say keep trying with the corn though, it’s amazing how quickly they pick things up 🙂

    1. I don’t add salt as it’s healthier for children to limit their salt intake. You could add salt if making them for yourself or increase the amount of pepper and curry powder.
