This sweet treat is super easy to make and really tasty. They hold their shape well but are nice and soft for younger children. Harry really enjoyed them and kept shouting ‘more’ when he’d finished!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of porridge oats
- 1 cup of grated apple
- 1 cup of prunes
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Method
- Put the porridge oats in a food processor and blitz until they are a fine, flour like consistency.
- add the other ingredients to the food processor and mix well.
- Roll dessertspoonfuls of the mixture into ball shapes. They should be approximately the size of baby’s palm.
- Put the balls in the fridge for an hour before serving. They will keep in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Would porridge oats be comparable to instant oats here in the US? I’m having trouble finding what exactly porridge oats are…
These are great for the season! We have lots of apples from our family trip to the orchard! Thanks for this!
Hi, yes whatever oats you usuallubsi to make porridge/oatmeal will be fine
Way too much spices, overpowered it. I made it again and halved the spices and much nicer.
Thank you for your feedback. We do tend to like very strong flavours that probably aren’t to everyone’s taste. I’ve amended the recipe to give them a more subtle flavour. 🙂
It’s lovely with less spices and freezes so well. Thank you!
Can you freeze these?
I haven’t tried yet but I can’t see why not 🙂
Can you freeze them?
yes 🙂
Just made these and they are gorgeous! I added some chia seeds too and they worked really well. Thank you.
Would you be able to do these without the prunes do you think?
I’d sub them for something else as they help with the consistency. 🙂
Do you use dry pruners,or fresh ones?
Dry x
We’ve been making these for almost 2 years now. I always add a little less spice and sometimes add some flaxseed. They freeze so well and I pop them frozen into my daughters lunchbox and by snack time they are ready. Thanks for the recipe!
