Friendly First Foods is a mummy blog where I can share my favourite recipes and weaning tales…or mishaps. As a first time mum I have loved the weaning journey and so has my son, Harry. He is never happier than when he’s eating and I want to remember these cheeky toddler moments for the years to come.
Friendly First Foods started life as a Facebook group. After joining a few weaning groups on Facebook I was disheartened and disappointed by how judged I felt for my weaning choices at times. The recipes shared were amazing and so was the advice but certain topics like weaning before 6 months or spoon feeding alongside finger foods were often the cause of negative, judgemental comments or scaremongering. I decided to create my own group with all of the positive recipe shares and advice like the other groups but one important rule- no judging other people. In the words of Thumper, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.”
The group quickly grew as other, like minded, people joined and embraced the positive supportive ethos of the group. We now have over 7000 members all over the world, all with amazing recipe ideas and helpful weaning advice or stories to share. If you haven’t already, check it out! It really is a very friendly supportive space to share or seek advice.
As for us, Harry is well and truly weaned now. He is a 20 month old cheeky toddler who still loves his food. He is starting to develop real preferences for what he likes and doesn’t like and toddler tantrums are becoming more frequent. We are finding new ways to sneak vegetables into meals and facing a whole new set of meal time challenges. The recipes on this website are ones that are suitable for babies from 6 months and most of them were given to Harry from the start of weaning. Most of the foods we feed Harry we eat and enjoy as a family. I hope you and your families enjoy them too!
